Christmas Wedding Ideas

I recently saw these wonderful Christmas place settings. I just love this idea because you not only get a personalised place setting but it also doubles up as a favor.

This was a wedding I was working on in early December the couple had the tags printed to match their invitations and had even had personalised ribbon with their names and wedding dated printed onto it.

This is a perfect wedding favor for this time of year as guests can take them home and hang them straight on their tree.

Fall and Autumn Table Centrepieces

Autumn is a really beautiful season to get married in and fall themed weddings are becoming increasingly popular.

One of the reason it's a popular choice for brides is the beautiful autumnal colours of reds and oranges.

You can see these stunning table centrepieces we created for one of our October brides.

It's also popular because of the weather, last October was full of beautiful sunshine and this year was also very similar. I wonder if that was one of the reasons we were fully booked for weddings this October.

Diamante Wedding Accessories

Diamantes have become a really popular choice for brides.

They work really well when placed in the bridal bouquet as seen here. You have two choices of how to use diamantes in your bouquet. You can have clusters as seen here. Or you can place diamante headed pins into the centre of the roses.

Many brides choose to use diamantes because they also have them on their dress and often in their tiara.

They have also become increasingly popular to tie in with the current vintage theme.

Vintage Style Wedding Flowers

The workshop has smelt absolutely beautiful this last couple of days. We have been working on a vintage wedding theme.

The bride wanted a lovely natural country garden look to her table arrangements in lilac and cream. We chose to use lilac and cream roses, freesias, stocks, lavender and blue thistles. The wonderful scent came from the lavender, stocks and freesia's.

This was all arranged with silver eucalyptus leaves (which also smells really nice) and placed in rustic vintage buckets.

It all complimented her venue perfectly, which was an old barn out in the beautiful Warwickshire countryside.

Calla Lily Sheath Bouquet

This is the beautiful dark purple
'Schwarzwalder' Calla Lily.

Here you can see how it looks when arranged into a sheath or over the arm bouquet.

This is a very traditional way to hold a wedding bouquet. However when it's made with a modern looking flower like this variety of Calla Lily it can look very contemporary. It's been teamed up with an aspidistra leaf and wispy bear grass.

Beach Centrepieces

I really like these candle sail boats. The frosted glass sails give them a very elegant look.

I can see them working really well surrounding the main table centrepiece or sailing in a line along the top table.

If you took a large circular vase filled it with a couple of inches of sand and put lots of beautiful shells on top. By placing an interesting impact flower such as an anthurium inside the vase it would make a simple yet stunning table centre. You could then finish it of by surrounding it with these beautiful boat tea light holders.

I've noticed that a lot of Brides have chosen a rich plum colour this summer.

This choice of colour theme is being reflected in the bridesmaids dresses.

Using pearls is very popular this season.

Here's a photo of the beautiful large goldfish bowl. You can see from the photo that there are large and small pearl beads in the water.

Some of the large pearls have sunk to the bottom and others are floating in between the rose heads.

Pearls fit really well with the vintage theme this year.

The circular mirror really helps as the reflection focuses on the pearls.

Rose Petals

It's become really popular now to throw rose petals instead of paper confetti. I made cones of real rose petals at my wedding for guests to throw, it's such good fun.

Choosing rose petals are great for several reasons:
You can colour coordinate the petals to your wedding colour theme. Boy do this company have plenty to choose from, I would be surprised if they didn't have your colour theme.

They show up really well on your photographs. Because they are larger than the traditional tiny paper confetti pieces they can be captured on film.

Finally if you choose petals that are real or freeze dried (as apposed to silk) then most venues will let your guest throw them. Many people are now concerned about the environment and not leaving a mess behind, so what better way to celebrate than will real petals.

Throwing confetti at the bride and groom goes back in time, long a go guests would traditional throw rice grains. I'm not sure many brides would be too happy to be showered in rice nowadays!

Any types of these rose petals add colour and a finishing touch to your table decorations as well. This is a great place to use the silk ones as they will look great all day long.

Christmas Wedding Theme

Now I know many of you are going to say I can't talk about Christmas when we are in the middle of summer, but I'm going to! The main reason being I'm talking to a lot of brides that are busy planning their December weddings.

Now if you want a touch of Christmas reflected on your tables but not in an overly obvious way then I think these place setting card holders are perfect. They look similar to the classic Christmas tree decoration but could go with any colour theme.

One of my December brides is planning a silver, snowflake theme and these would be just perfect on her reception tables.

My Wedding Flowers

Sorry for my absence but I've been a little busy getting married!

We got married on the 31st of May and had the most perfect day.

As you can see from the photo we chose to have very colourful tall table arrangements at our venue. They really suited the very high ceiling and brightened up a very old but really beautiful building.

Many people thought we were mad to do our own wedding flowers but I don't think even my florist friends would have taken the job if asked. I'm far too fussy and defiantly know what I like!

We managed to WOW our guest and surpass their expectations and as you can imagine there were some very happy people taking them home at the end of the evening.

Original Wedding Cake Ideas

I was recently helping a couple who are due to get married in July this year. For some reason we got on to talking about their wedding cake.

They are planning to have a tower of cakes now you wouldn't be wrong in thinking perhaps of profiteroles or cupcakes, but no this couple are having a doughnut wedding cake.

Fortunately they live near the Selfridges in Birmingham who sell the most amazing American doughnuts from krispy kreme. They sound totally delicious and because they have to be as fresh as possible the groom intends to pick up the 100 or so doughnuts on the morning of the wedding. The great thing about this brand of doughnut is not only the quality but also the choice of flavours.

So if you are looking for that wedding cake with WOW factor you might consider this.

Finishing Touches To Your Table Decorations

When you are planning your table decorations it is easy to get carried away with planning the large table centrepieces etc. But don't forget to pay attention to the smaller details.

Things like your menu cards if done well can really add style to your table. In the photo you can see the menu cards I have made for my wedding. Not surprisingly we've gone for a flower theme!

It can be really good fun making things like this yourself. But be realistic it takes far more time than you imagine so don't leave it to the last minute. Also only do these things if you enjoy them else it will turn into a bit of a chore.

Adding Colour

A great way to theme your wedding is through colour.

Flowers provide an excellent way to colour coordinate your wedding and the variety of colours available is amazing.

If you have a strong colour like the yellow you can see here from http://www.wedding-flowers-guide.com/yellow-wedding-flowers.html it enables you to dress all of your rooms from the ceremony to the wedding breakfast etc.

Often brides use the colour of their bridesmaids dresses as a starting point.

When you have a colour theme in mind I suggest talking it through with your florist. They will be able to advise and help you coordinate your colour theme through the flowers.

This photograph is of a spring wedding and the fresh yellow colour worked perfectly for the time of year and the setting.

Organising Your Tables

This great little video gives you lots of help on table sizes and how to organise the table layout.

Lots of brides we work with are confused about how many people they can fit around a table, this video should answer all your questions.

It will also make sure that you are confident about telling your venue how many people you want sat at your tables, don't let them dictate this to you. Some venues tell you that you can squeeze guests around tables but this just leaves them sitting squashed up next to each other.

Don't forget they're sitting their for a long time and you want them to be able to relax and be comfortable.
